2015: Doug Saunders’ Arrival City

In 2015, the Centre for City Ecology and Cities of Migration are collaborated to present an engaging online discussion of Canadian journalist Doug Saunders’ Arrival City. Facilitated by a cast of global contributors who responded to each chapter, the guided reading and global discussions stimulated an energetic dialogue with input from people who are working locally on issues of urban migration–from innovative planning, policy and design solutions to entrepreneurship and impromptu social organizations that are responding to the phenomenon of this massive migratory shift.

Each week, a guest contributor provided a commentary on one chapter of Arrival City, and readers were invited to join the discussion online. Contributors for this reading of Arrival City included:

2012: Jane Jacobs’ The Death and Life of Great American Cities

Death and Life of Great American Cities

In 2012, the Centre for City Ecology launched the first City Builder Book Club, facilitated in partnership with Creative Urban Projects. The first book was Jane Jacobs’ The Death and Life of Great American Cities,  facilitated in partnership with Creative Urban Projects.The City Builder Book Club is a joint venture between the Centre for City Ecology and Creative Urban Projects. The goal was  to facilitate a deeper understanding of how cities work by hosting a guided reading and discussion of Death and Life, a book that has shaped and challenged our ideas on on urbanism and city life.
